Regional policy is a type of policy that provides additional support to those areas that are lagging behind in development because only then all regions can contribute to a sustainable competitive economy and bring the benefits of the country. The reason for defining regional policy in Croatia is increasing depening and widening of the socio- economic development imbalances which links an increase in non-uniformity of quality of life in different parts of the Croatia. Other reasons are that all the parts are able to compete and comply with the standards and practices of the European Union. Regional disparities cause an overall retardation of growth development and function of weakening markets within and between regions or countries. There may be a distortion of the regional structures. Decentralization is a prerequisite for economic recovery and growth and is reducing the impact of the center of an organized system of its parts. The process of decentralization are European and world reality. They take place in parallel with globalization and strengthen regional integration. Increasing importance is attached to achieving balanced regional development.
