Library is an institution that enables free access to library and non-book library materials to its users. Public library and reading room Požega was founded in 1845 and has been adapting to the social needs since then. The most significant change in its work occurred as a result of using the latest information technologies. Today's library work is based on the usage of computers, printers, barcodes and the internet. Library databases allow its users to search for published information such as magazine, journal and newspaper articles. It also allows library catalog usage via the internet, checking in and out (borrowing and discharging a book) as well as charging overdue fees. Digitalization makes old and rare materials available and in addition to printed materials, users can also find materials recorded on other media e.g. CD ROMs, DVDs and CDs. There is an ongoing construction and adaptation of a building which will be fully equipped with the latest technologies as well as the RFID technology for libraries.
